Members of the Board

The Board is composed of seven officials elected for three-year terms.  Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month.  Closed Session discussions begin at 6:30 p.m., and Open Session begins at 7:30 p.m., in the Palacios Independent School District Board Room located at 1209 Twelfth Street.

Policies for Addressing the Board:


Open Forum

At regular meetings the Board shall allot time to hear persons who desire to make comments to the Board.  Persons who wish to participate in this portion of the meeting shall sign up as they arrive, indicating the topic about which they wish to speak.

 

Complaints and Concerns

Complaints and concerns for which other resolution channels are provided shall be directed through those channels.  The presiding officer or designee shall determine whether a person who wishes to address the Board has attempted to solve a matter administratively.  If not, the person shall be directed to seek resolution before bringing the matter to the Board at a subsequent meeting.  Specific factual information or recitation of existing policy may be furnished in response to inquiries, but the Board shall not deliberate or decide regarding any subject that is not included on the agenda posted with notice of the meeting.


Limit on Participation

Audience participation at a Board meeting is limited to the portion of the meeting designated for that purpose. At all other times during a Board meeting, the audience shall not enter into discussion or debate on matters being considered by the Board, unless recognized by the presiding officer. No presentation shall exceed five minutes. Delegations of more than five persons shall appoint one person to present their views before the Board.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES ELECTION INFORMATION

The school board consists of seven trustees who serve three-year terms.  Annual elections take place the second Saturday of May.  Each trustee represents the entire school district.


 

The candidate who receives the highest number of votes for each position will serve as a trustee. Runoffs are not conducted unless there is a tie.


 

In accordance with the Texas Education Code and the Texas Election Code, mandatory joint elections are required for school district trustees.  Palacios ISD board elections are held on the same date as the City of Palacios.  

May 12, 2012 Trustee Elections:

Candidate packets may be obtained at the Palacios ISD Administration Building, 1209 Twelfth Street. February 4, 2012, is the first day for candidates to file an application for a place on the ballot.  The deadline to file is March 5, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. Position Ballot drawing will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2012.  Early Voting begins: Monday, April 30, 2012 and ends: Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the Palacios ISD Administration Bldg. 1209 12th Street, Palacios.  Early voting will be conducted from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on April 30th and May 1st, 2012 and 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. May 2nd through May 8th, 2012.
